Morelia, Quiroga and Patzcuaro

Last weekend,Nil (an argentinian exchange student) and I went to Morelia. We had a long weekend since neither of us have class fridays plus Monday was a day off for some reason that I never really got to figure out.
Morelia is a bigger city in the state Michoacán, it's around 4 hours drive from Guanajuato. It is a really beautiful city, the city center is colonial style and very beautiful. Have a look:

Here in Mexico for some reason they are crazy about Don Quijote, so this is a statue of Don Quijote and Sancho Panza

We met up with Mingo, his girlfriend and another friend and had ice cream and enjoyed the beautiful sunny day:

Two years ago at roskilde Festival there was a mexican guy in my camp, and he lives in Morelia, so we visited him and he showed us the city and on sunday he took us to the two villages Quiroga and Patzcuaro as well. Here Nil and him are having quesadillas:

I really liked Morelia, but what was even more amazing was the village Patzcuaro. On the main square groups of men are dressed up in maskes and hats and stuff and they dance around stepping like crazy. It is a typical dance that the indians used to dance back when they were colonialized by the spanish. They dress up and dance like this to make fun of the spaniards.

In Patzcuaro there is a also a lake, so we went to have a look:

really beautiful setting, but too many mosquitos, so we didn't hang around that long.

That's all for now, over and out :)
