Visiting Gustavo's family in La Plata and school starts

Life is good here in Colombia, I am enjoying life a lot.

Last Monday, 2nd of February, I started school which has been quite chaotic with new schedules (apparently they had given me an old version) and several teachers not being there for the first class. But beside that it has been fine, people seem nice and the subjects seem interesting as well, so I am hoping for a good semester here.

A couple of days before school started, Gustavo and I went to La Plata to see his family and enjoy the last couple of days of my vacation. They were happy to see us, and we had some nice days there. Gustavo's oldest sister, Johana, had a kid in July last year, and I got to meet her for the first time, really cute, and we had some great time with her !

A truckdriver picked us up in Popayán and left us here to take the bus to go the rest of the way to La Plata. Beautiful nature !

Thaliana

She will for sure be a good swimmer some day, she loved the water and the daily baths

Mango time ! We ate so many mangos, ñam ñam !

Uncle Gustavo and Thaliana

And then the homemade sofa is done, and it is really comfortable !

Back in Colombia to study my last semester

Yet again, destination Colombia. This time to study, though. I have been accepted in la Universidad del Cauca in Popayán, where Diana lives, and I am doing my lst semester here.
It has been quite a hectic journey since i handed in my last exam paper the 19th of January and had to leave for Colombia 22nd. But after a great farwell-party a couple of days before leaving DK and a lunch with my parents on the day I left, I was ready to leave. I have to remember though that the 22nd of January not is a good day for me to travel.

First, in Copenhagen, all ready to leave and the pilot announces that the captain was sick and that we therefore were waiting for someone else to come. This meant that we were almost 1 hour late. We arrived in Frankfurt in time to catch the next plane so I though that now it was gonna go just fine, but I was SO wrong.

On time we were put on busses that should take us to the airplane. Waiting and waiting for it to drive, but nothing. Not even the doors were closed, and it was pretty cold, especially since I had only a sweater. After almost and hour waiting in the bus we were told to go back in the terminal, there was something wrong with the airplane apparently. Waiting for the next plane to be ready and then back in the bus. Finally we were in the plane, all set and ready to take off: "I am sorry to tell you that we haven't got the permission from the signaltower to leave Frankfurt since we have passed the 11 o'clock curfew". I couldn't believe it, it was 23.02 and they wouldn't let us leave. So back in the airport, and all europeans were put in a nice hotel a little outside the airport, all non-europeans had to sleep in the terminal because of their visa (really unfair if you ask me!).

I didn't sleep much even though it was really comfi at the 5 star hotel. We were told to be back in the airport at 10.30 in the morning, kind of ridiculous though since the plane was leaving at 14.

Because of this 16 hour delay from Frankfurt I missed my connection in Panama and had to sleep another night in a hotel there. It was an enormous chaos in Panama. First person by person we were called up to get a new boarding pass for a flight the next day, then going through migration and 20 minutes in bus to a hotel. My plane left really early in the morning, so I didn't get to sleep much. Just called Gustavo to let him now when I was arriving, a quick shower and then to sleep a little.

When I finally arrived, 24 hours delayed I had a small problem in the airport, the guy in the migration didn't give me the right stamp even though I told him that I was gonna study here, so I had to pass by migration a couple of days after and pay for them to change it. But anyways, I had finally arrived in Colombia, wuhuuu !

Gustavo picked me up in the airport and we went to see Marcela. It was so nice to see both of them, and even though I was extremely tired I really felt like I was home in some way (sorry mom, but I guess this is my second home).

After a couple of days in Bogotá we took a night bus to Popayán since the more we waited the harder it would be to get a place to stay. I went to Diana's house and had some lunch there. It was great to see her again as always.

We have been really lucky, we found a place to stay really fast, and even though it was a little complicated with the contract and so everything turned out well and we moved last Saturday. And we have now filled the kitchen and we can somehow call it liveable now, since it was rented to us without furniture or anything.

Gustavo trying to make a sofa from plastic. Turned out really nice!

I have been at the university the last couple of days to make sure everything was fine, and I was lucky to get all the subjects that I hoped, my schedule is pretty crazy though:
Monday: 8-12 and 14-19
Tuesday: 7-12 and 14-19
Friday: 14-19

It is gonna be some really long days Monday and Tuesday, but I really hope that the subjects are worth it.

On Monday I was at the welcomming ceremony for the new students at the university, and people around here are pretty crazy about foreigners, and since we are only like 4 exchange students it is even more exciting for them. So me and the mexican exchange student who had also arrived were interview by the university tv channel and we were in the news program on national tv. It was kind of weird and it is reall strange to see oneself on tv, and even more to hear myself speaking spanish.. haha...

Well, that is all for now, hope you are all doing well whereever you are :D
