We arrived Friday afternoon and after getting something to eat we met up with a friend of Bea's and he offered that we could stay at his place - super !
The next day we met up with Grace and Anne, who are also at exchange here in Guanajuato, and just as you think Guadalajara is a huge city we accidently bumped into Mayte, from the exchange, and her brother on the street. Hi brother lives there and told us that we just had to try las tortas ahogadas (drowned sandwiches, drowned in chilisauce):
Delicious !
Our plan was actually to go to Tlaquepaque, a part of town that used to be a village, but since the city kept growing and growing now it is part, so Mayte's brother called a friend, Marvin, and he came and picked us up and we all went to Tlaquepaque, after a photosession in the center of course:
Tlaquepaque was great fun, it was nice to feel the pueblo-vibe despite being in a huge city:
When the weather is this hot you need an ice cream, something the mexicans really now how to make !
Beate and I resting a little after walking a lot.
a beer to finish of the visit in Tlaquepaque.
After celebrating Mayte's brother birthday Saturday night Bea and I went to have salmon sandwiches (it is the best breakfast I have had in a long time) and she had to take bus back to Guanajuato, but I felt like staying a day more, so I went to Chapala, where Mexico biggest lake is, with Mayte and some other friends of her's:
We stopped on the way and had great lunch, mexican-style.
Being close to water (even though you can't swim here) was great, just what I needed, and on top of that we got to enjoy this beautiful sunset.
Monday before going back to Guanajuato I went to Tonalá, another part of Guadalajara filled with handcrafts, I was in heaven! I only have a photo from the main square though:
That's all for now, have a great weekend !
