Cartagena

Wednesday last week Diana and I went to the beautiful city Cartagena in the north of Colombia. It is a lovely city, but it is extremely hot there. Most days we didn't go out other than to the beach before 4-5 o'clock in the afternoon, because it was simply too hot to walk around in the historical part earlier than that. But to me that didn't matter, because it turned out that Cartagena is more beautiful at night than in the daytime, and that way we could also spend more time at the beach.
I really enjoyed the beach there, even though it was not the bounty beach that you can find other places it was really nice. The only pain was all the people there who wants to sell you everything from jewlry to fruit and food. But since I spent a lot of time in the water and reading my book I just ignored them and they went away.
We went to las islas rosarios where they have a really beautiful beach called Playa Blanca. We had a delicious meal there, fish, rice with coconut and fried banana - wow, I love this traditional dish. And of course we took a swim in the very cristal clear water. I wish we had had time to sleep there one night in hammocks, but our flight back to Cali was the day after, so we sadly didn't have time. I think it would be nice to be there and enjoy it without all the tourists just passing by on a tour like the one we were on.

In my first 10 days here in Colombia a lot of people have been staring at me and have been calling me a lot of really weird names. Here is the list:

1. Mona (mono means monkey, but here in Colombia they say it about white people)
2. Monita Linda.
3. Reina (queen)
4. Blanca Neive (snow white)
5. Sabrosa (Delicious)

I find all these names that complete strangers yell after me in the streets really funny.

Anyways, here are some fotos from Cartagena:

Lots of colonial architecure. Beautiful.

Taking a break because of the crazy CALOR .

Writting my diary, a very important part of my trip.

We spent more or less a whole day relaxing in a nice park in the historical part of Cartagena.

There is a lot of dancing groups dressed up and dancing in the plazas in Cartagena. They all dance the same two types of dances, but it is great fun to look at.

Diana was in LOVE with this little police car.

Nice ice cream.. yuuuum

Enjoying my really good book on the beach. I can really recommend it, it is Ayaan Hirsi-Ali's biography.

Watching the sun going down over the sea.

At the beach at Playa Blanca.

In the fantastic water !

Now I'm in Popayán where Diana and her family, more about that in a couple of days.
